Ang Pagbabalik
October 20, 2006
It's been a while since I've made a real post here. Most of the time, I just resort to cutting n' pasting stuff that I find amusing at that particular moment. A lot has happened in my life since — promotions, resignations and most recently… Singapore.
Chai (notice her name is now spelled with an "i" instead of a "y" — 'coz it's always mispronounced by the locals) and I have moved here to begin a new life.
Currently, I'm still waiting for the approval of my employment pass (S-pass) and it's been 3 loooooooooong weeks. During this time, we've already gotten a place to stay, explored most of the malls and tourist destinations. I've even watched a Slayer concert here!
Singapore is a strange and wonderful place, brimming with color, smell and excitement. We find the place so beautiful and the food so bland.:) No wonder people put chili on everything! Ayun, puro chili na rin ako ngayon.
There are so many little things that probably go unnoticed by the locals, pero syempre kami aliw na aliw. Take for instance the movie houses — cinemas as they call it. In Manila, each theater is managed by the particular mall that houses the cinema. Dito hindi. Para rin silang franchise. There's Golden Village, Shaw, Eng Wah, to name a few. What we find so amusing with the theatres is that the seats are so comfortable. They actually tilt when you lean back unlike back home, which are more or less bolted down and rigid as hell. And don't get me started about the serving size of the food here. Kapag sinabi mong "large Coke," LARGE COKE talaga ang bibigay sa iyo. It's bigger than my friggin' head!
Of course, marami na rin kaming pangit na nakita and we realized that Singapore is not the perfect society that we thought it to be. May mga kalat rin. People jaywalk and litter left and right. You see old folks and children alike cutting queues, spitting and blowing their noses (without handkerchiefs!) in public.
Anyway, I'll try my best to document our stay here — from the places we visit, to the food we eat. I hope I don't get lazy. Otherwise, it's back to cut n' paste for me. Patay tayo dyan.:)
